DP: All Grown Up

Today’s Daily Prompt asks us when we first felt truly grown up.

Now that’s a hard one, because since being small children, we’re all told we’re ‘big boys and girls now’, and taught to think we’re grown up. Obviously we probably aren’t, but we still feel it.

I think though, that the first time I justifiably felt ‘all grown up’ was when I got my first job as a lifeguard. Knowing that all these people are depending on you for their safety, and trust in you to resolve (potentially major) problems they may have forces you to take on the role. People respect you as an authority and will follow your lead.

That’s when I felt grown up.
